Syndel Metcalf
Born and raised in East Sacramento, the third of six children, I attended local schools Sacred Heart and St. Francis High.
Influences that fueled my interest and passion for art came from my godfather and uncle, Michael, and his wife who at every holiday and birthday gave me art supplies. My high school art teacher Mrs. Grohosky, with whom I became close as teacher’s aide. I attended American River College and studied art under the tutelages of beloved Joseph Patitucci and later Gary Pruner.
As most lives lead us in an awkward career path, chasing necessity and not following heart, I lost touch with my artistic endeavors. I was fortunate to find creative work with a mutual fund company recently but left my job when we found out I was pregnant with twins.
Becoming a stay-at-home parent has encouraged me to reexamine what my future career will be, looking to reemerge in the art scene. I’ve found with my new family and time spent with good friends that my passion for art has re-blossomed and shows true what is close to my heart in my 2007 show “Faces I Know”.
